Migrating from hosting mail.

Your website stays with your host; only email moves. Connect to cPanel or Plesk mailboxes over IMAP and import folders and messages.

Delete the mailboxes in your hosting package only after you've confirmed the final import, not before.

Nothing is deleted or changed at the source.

Before you start.

Get three things from your hosting panel.

  • IMAP server name

Usually mail.yourdomain.com or your hosting provider's server name. The certificate must match that name; self-signed certificates are not accepted.

  • Mailbox passwords

Know each mailbox's password or reset it in your hosting panel; the import deletes nothing at the source.

  • Where your DNS lives

Is your DNS run by your host, your registrar or Cloudflare? The wizard recognizes it from your name servers and shows the matching guide.

Migration in five steps.

The dashboard's migration plan follows the same order and shows each step's status from real data.

  1. Step 1: Lower the TTL

Lower your current MX record's TTL to 300 seconds, so the new record spreads within minutes when MX changes.

  2. Step 2: Create mailboxes

Connect your domain and create a mailbox for each person. New mail doesn't come to Mühür Mail until MX changes, so nothing stops at this step.

  3. Step 3: Import old messages

Connect to the old server over IMAP, confirm the folder mapping and start the import.

  4. Step 4: Switch the MX record

Point the MX record to Mühür Mail; remove the old provider's MX and SPF entries once the move is done.

  5. Step 5: Confirm delivery

Send a message from outside and see it arrive; run the import once more to collect anything that reached the old server in between.

The import never deletes or flags anything at the source; re-running the same job skips messages that already arrived.

Hosting-specific details.

Most hosting mail servers show folders with an INBOX. prefix; Mühür Mail drops the prefix and creates folders with familiar names.

  • Port 993 (SSL/TLS) or 143 (STARTTLS required); the password never travels in plain text
  • If you get a certificate error, try your hosting provider's server name
  • Sent, Drafts, Junk, Trash and their Turkish names map to their own folders
  • Your website's records (A, CNAME) are not touched
  • When MX switches, remove the host's MX record; if your website sends form emails, keep the hosting part of your SPF

Frequently asked questions

Will my website be affected?

No. Only the email-related DNS records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC) change; your website's records are not touched.

Will my site's contact form keep sending email?

If the form sends from the hosting server, keep the hosting part of your SPF. If you'd like the form to send through Mühür Mail, enter a mailbox and an app password in its SMTP settings.

The import shows a certificate error.

Mühür Mail connects to the old server only with a valid certificate. Enter the name on the certificate as the server name, usually your hosting provider's server name; self-signed certificates are not accepted.
